The first blue carbon (marine carbon sink) project in China includes 380 hectares of mangrove forests within the protected area. Due to its special significance in protecting the critically endangered species (IUCN CR) spoon billed snipe and endangered species (IUCN EN) black faced spoonbill on the Leizhou Peninsula, the project has outstanding benefits in promoting local biodiversity. It has also become the first carbon sink project in China to obtain CCB Gold level certification (biodiversity).
