On January 11th, both the launch of the Iron Ore Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) and the unveiling of the Steel EPD took place at Baoshan Hotel in Shanghai. Organized by the China Iron and Steel Association and facilitated by Ouyeel Co., Ltd., the event emphasized the green, sustainable future of the steel industry. In line with the national dual carbon vision, Climate Bridge was entrusted with ensuring the event was carbon neutral.
The steel industry's EPD platform is a testament to China's commitment as a major supplier of the global steel industry. As China's first industrially focused platform, since its debut on May 19, 2022, it has gained significant societal and industrial traction. This platform not only underscores the significance of a sustainable steel industry but also heralds a new era in China's industrial specialized platforms.
During the event, 20 EPD reports from large enterprises such as Shougang, Shagang, Baogang, Jisco, Wantai Special Steel, Zhanjiang Iron & Steel, Chongqing Iron & Steel, Echeng Iron & Steel, Bayi Iron & Steel were presented. In alignment with the dual carbon objective, Climate Bridge assessed the event's greenhouse gas emissions. Carbon credits were procured to ensure the conference's carbon neutrality, signifying Chinese steel firms' proactive measures towards a sustainable future. The overarching ambition is for China's steel sector to emerge as a global frontrunner in green, low-carbon, and smart steel manufacturing.
Frims including Shougang, Shagang, Baogang, Jisco, Baowu Resources, and Wantai Special Steel acknowledged the strides made by the steel industry's EPD platform. They emphasized that unveiling the iron ore EPD and various steel product EPDs is pivotal for aligning with China’s dual carbon strategy and fostering sustainable business growth. EPD certifications not only open doors to international markets but also provide comprehensive environmental data on steel products, furthering the industry's green innovation.
This conference, themed around green and low-carbon ideals, wholeheartedly embraced the notion of carbon neutrality. With the support of entities like Baowu Resources and Climate Bridge, comprehensive carbon assessments encompassing transportation, lodging, and the conference's operational needs were carried out. By calculating and offsetting greenhouse gas emissions, the event successfully operated as a zero-carbon conference.
