Shanghai, 15 December 2025, Climate Bridge acknowledges Verra’s announcement on 12 December 2025 regarding the rejection of four carbon projects in China and the initiation of broader Quality Control Reviews (QCRs) across additional projects, following allegations relating to the authenticity of certain government approval documentation. Verra has indicated that it will initiate QCRs for 35 projects, including projects developed by Climate Bridge.
Climate Bridge upholds the highest standards of integrity and maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward any form of business misconduct. We have worked closely with project proponents to develop a portfolio of high-quality AFOLU projects in China that meet stringent governmental, environmental, and technical requirements.
All project proponents associated with Climate Bridge’s projects have obtained the requisite approvals from the relevant government authorities and have received support from relevant local authorities and communities. These approvals are supported by comprehensive compliance documentation and corroborated by publicly available information across the respective project regions.
Over the years, Climate Bridge has engaged constructively with government authorities at multiple levels, and has established itself as a long-term and credible partner in supporting China’s climate change mitigation and sustainable development objectives.
Against this backdrop, Climate Bridge expresses deep concerns that Verra’s recent actions, applied on a broad and standardized basis, have resulted in the inclusion of certain Climate Bridge-developed projects in the QCR process, notwithstanding that these projects have already secured the required government approvals and demonstrated local support. We are of the view that a more targeted, evidence-based approach would have better reflected the individual circumstances and compliance status of the projects concerned.
We recognise that Verra’s announcement may have created uncertainty for our clients, partners, and counterparties. Climate Bridge is taking immediate steps to engage proactively with Verra and accredited Validation and Verification Bodies (VVBs) to address any outstanding questions and to complete the QCR process as expeditiously as possible.
Climate Bridge will provide clear, verifiable, and publicly available evidence demonstrating that the relevant projects have received proper authorization from the local authorities. We remain confident that a fact-based and constructive engagement process will lead to an appropriate and timely resolution.
Climate Bridge remains fully committed to its core principles of integrity, transparency, and quality, and will continue to develop and deliver carbon credits that meet the highest standards of environmental and governmental integrity.
